What is cellulose acetate?

Cellulose acetate is an eco-friendly alternative to plastic. It is plant based, derived from wood pulp. Through a chemical process it is made into a malleable sheet that is used to form the hair clips and hair claws we stock. It is high quality and long lasting. Stocking cellulose acetate hair accessories helps us move in the right direction of choosing options that are friendlier for the environment, but also lasting you for years to come.

About Our Jewellery

What is our jewellery plated with?

All our jewellery is plated with 18K gold on stainless steel or titanium steel. Refer to individual product for base metal used.

What is 316L stainless steel?

316L stainless steel is a form of stainless steel that has lowest amount of nickel, usually only trace amounts. As a result this form of stainless steel is hypoallergenic but is not guaranteed to not cause allergic reaction in people with nickel allergies because of the trace elements of nickel.

What is titanium e-coating?

E-coating or electro-coating is a process where an extra layer of material is placed over the jewellery to make it more resistant to scratches and fading. E-coated materials are resistant to water, however we always recommend taking care of your jewellery as listed below.

Is our jewellery waterproof?

Our e-coated jewellery is coated with a layer of titanium, making it resistant to water. Despite this we still always recommend taking off your jewellery before showering or exercising to extend their life time. Please check below for our full care instructions.

How should you care for your jewellery?

We always recommend to keep your jewellery in the pouch provided when you are not wearing it. We also recommend taking off your jewellery off before swimming, showering or when it can be exposed to liquids or chemicals. Always remember your jewellery should be the last thing on and the first thing off.

Does our jewellery tarnish or oxidise?

Tarnishing is when colour fades. Oxidation is when the colour of the metal changes and turns green. Our jewellery when taken care of correctly will last and not tarnish. Stainless steel and titanium steel themselves are tarnish resistant, however the gold plating can fade over time if not taken care of correctly. Both metals are also oxidation resistant so they will not give you a green or brown colour.

What is hypoallergenic jewellery?

Hypoallergenic means that it is less likely to cause allergy. Titanium does not contain any nickle but stainless steel may contain trace amounts of nickle which can still cause allergy in people allergic to nickle. If you have had an allergic reaction to stainless steel jewellery, we do not recommend purchasing our stainless steel products.
