Designing a showroom that restores, rather than overwhelms
Showroom visit days are always a high-energy experience.
You spend the day walking around Clerkenwell, moving from one showroom to the next. By the end of the day, you've seen hundreds of products, walked over 20,000 steps, had countless conversations and made decision after decision.
Your brain becomes overloaded.
Everything starts to blur together.
Your energy drops.
It becomes harder to absorb information, compare options and make confident choices.
When designing Clarebrook's new showroom, we wanted to challenge that experience.
Instead of creating another showroom competing for attention, we asked:
What if a showroom could become a place to restore?
A space that helps people feel calm, reduces cognitive load and creates the conditions for clearer thinking.
Because when people feel comfortable, they're better able to learn, connect, collaborate and make confident decisions.
Our Approach
Our process began by understanding how showrooms are actually used.
They're not simply places to display furniture.
They're places where trust is built, conversations happen, ideas are developed and important specification decisions are made. The environment itself becomes part of that experience.
Rather than asking how we could display more products, we focused on creating an environment that supports the people using it.
Designing Through the Senses
Inspired by the Scottish landscape and Clarebrook's heritage, we created a calm, coherent sensory experience using natural materials, soft textures, planting, layered lighting and flowing forms.
Sheer curtains replace solid walls, softly defining different zones while improving acoustics, allowing daylight to flow through the space and reducing visual complexity.
Together, these elements create an environment that feels open, welcoming and easy to navigate.
Designing for Experience
Rather than displaying furniture in rows, we created a series of real workplace settings where products could be experienced naturally.
Visitors can understand scale, comfort and materiality through experience rather than imagination, making it easier to compare options and visualise products within their own projects.
The flexible layout allows the showroom to evolve throughout the day, supporting everything from quick drop-in visits to client presentations, workshops and longer design conversations.
The Design Impact
The showroom was designed to reduce friction in decision-making, build familiarity and trust through repeat visits, and provide design and build teams with a place they feel confident bringing their clients.
By creating a positive, memorable experience, the environment strengthens relationships, encourages people to return and leaves a lasting association with the Clarebrook brand.
Because great design isn't just about what people see.
It's about creating environments that support how people think, feel and function.
“Thank you for such a phenomenal job. You understood our vision from the outset and transformed it into a showroom that feels calm, welcoming and thoughtfully designed – a place where people naturally want to spend time, connect, have meaningful conversations and experience our furniture in a way that feels effortless.
Your flair for design, understanding of the commercial realities of budget and timeline, knowledge of the market and its trends, and attention to detail have created something truly special.
To have something so far beyond our expectations, even better in reality than the excellent visuals produced at the start, delivered on time and within the agreed budget, has exceeded everything we hoped for. We believe it will continue to add value far beyond its cost.
The feedback from our blue-chip stakeholders has been unanimously positive. They love the space, recognise the value it brings, and appreciate the experience it creates. We are thrilled and incredibly grateful. Thank you so very much."
